Raising Kids for Eternity, Not Just Today

Stop and picture something for a moment.

Picture the day your adult child enters Heaven's gates. You are standing with the crowd of those who loved them and shepherded them in faith. With eager anticipation, they go running into Jesus' embrace — just as you did. Surrounded by family. Surrounded by those who poured into them.

I can't imagine a better visual to spur me forward in the daily, sometimes exhausting work of parenting with purpose.

Because here's the truth: no amount of wealth, status, or achievement is going to amount to anything once we're gone if all we labored for was to be left on Earth. We want to be storing up treasures in Heaven — every single day. And that means raising our kids with their eyes fixed on what's eternal, not on earthly comparisons and attainment.

That plays out in real, practical ways in our home. It means making choices that don't always make sense to the world around us. It means sometimes saying no to the soccer game on Sunday. It means choosing community with believers over keeping up with everyone else's schedule. It means asking regularly: does this bring Him glory? Does this bring my child closer to Him or further away?

I want my heart and my kids' hearts to be on fire for Him — not lukewarm to fit into the world. The eternity I want them to spend with Him far outweighs any temporary fad or comfort we might chase today.

What a legacy you will leave when you parent with that vision in mind.

This Week's Challenge: Share that Heaven's gates picture with your kids this week. Tell them: "I'm parenting you for eternity, not just for today." Let them know that every rule, every 'no,' every hard conversation comes from that place.
