There’s Nothing Special About the Way We’re Raising Our Kids — It’s Just Purposeful

Why parenting on purpose matters

The days are long, and yet the moments we get with our kids are short and fleeting. If we are not intentional, we can miss every single opportunity to pour into them — and not even realize it until they are gone.

So let me ask you something. How much of your day is spent on things that, at the end of your life, will never matter?

How you are going to pay the bills. What is happening at work and how to handle it. The neighbors and their yard. That friend who won’t return your texts. The sports team your kid didn’t make. The vacation you can’t quite afford. Does any of it matter — really?

Now ask yourself this: how much of your day do you spend thinking about the things that do?

Is your child walking with Jesus? Do they know how to talk to Him — about anything? Are they talking to you about everything? What are they afraid to bring to you? What do they want to do with their life, and how can you help them get there? Do they understand Heaven and eternity? What hurts are they carrying right now, and do they know you are safe enough to help them walk through those?

Your family is what matters. In one second, everything you know could be shattered — and in that moment, the only list that will mean anything is the second one.

We have to pay our bills. We have to work our jobs and be responsible people. None of that is lost on me. But the things occupying the most space in our hearts and minds should have a Kingdom focus. If they don’t — start there. Ask yourself today what one thing you could shift to begin moving in that direction.

Spend time in prayer seeking His will over your life, not the world’s agenda for it. Your kids need this from you. And honestly? You need it for yourself — before you stand before Jesus and look back over the days He gave you. You want to know that they were not wasted on things that didn’t matter, but poured into the only things that do.

Nothing special. Just purposeful.
